FEATURE 2 - Freestyle or Self-Choreo

 Freestyle Solo & Duo Challenge

IMPULSE is a spontaneous and creative challenge where dancers receive a randomly selected song and are given time to listen, prepare, and rehearse before performing on stage. Finalists return for a second round in a head-to-head showdown to determine the champion.

The Steps

Step 1

Pre-register your dancers for IMPULSE Solo or Duo.

Step 2

At the scheduled time, dancers receive a randomly selected song.

Step 3

Dancers get time to listen, rehearse, and prepare.

Step 4

Perform live in front of the judges.

Step 5

Finalists perform again with a new song to determine the champion.

Eligibility & Performance
  • Registration must be completed in advance
  • Soloists will compete against other soloists
  • Duos will compete against other duos
  • There is no separation by age divisions
  • Finals only happen if there are more than 5 entries in respective category

Where do I get my song?

After your draw, you will receive a link to get your edited version of your song assignment from the VSDC stage manager.

 

Do I have to dance to the whole track?

Yes!

What if my dancer doesn’t like the song?

The dancer should do their best to work with that they are given. They are no limits to what can be done.

 

When does my dancer find out what song they are are assigned and they will be performing?

Your dancer will have a scheduled time to come to the stage to randomly be assigned the song.

 

Is my dancer allowed to work with a choreographer?

Yes, they may work with a choreographer or on their own. However, dancers are encouraged to freestyle and search for those moments while performing on stage as well.
